TUESDAY, APRIL 26, 2011 | | Hello Fooboozers! Ever wondered just how ugly a restaurant closure can get? Well, the answer is: very. And the sudden closure of Fork & Barrel is certainly true to form, with all kinds of name-calling, accusations and a wicked fight in the comments section. The restaurant is currently shuttered, but something tells me its story is far from over. And while the up-front battling at Amoroso’s Bakery may not be as publicly nasty, it still wasn’t good news when layoff notices went out last week to the company’s local delivery drivers. Sure, the historic bakery came back fast with an offer to let the drivers buy out their routes and become small business owners, but in most quarters this wasn’t exactly looked on as the “great opportunity” Amoroso’s was claiming it was. But hey … it wasn’t all bad news last week. We also had details on Marc Vetri’s Great Chefs event, big news from Cantina Feliz (which had a week where its Inquirer review was only the second-most exciting thing to happen), speculation on various nightmare scenarios that might attend the May 4 opening of the Center City Krispy Kreme (and its free-donuts-for-a-year giveaway), and then offered up a 12-course dream menu for all you local stoners in celebration of 4/20. Why? Because we love you. Even you hippies. — Jason Sheehan, Food Editor | | | | Fork & Barrel Shuts The Doors Leaving its former employees with plenty of time to comment on our blog.
