Hello Fooboozers!
Another busy week here at Foobooz World Headquarters. To start it off, we had all the dirt on the opening of Stephen Starr’s newest: Frankford Hall, his (somewhat confusing) 400-seat beer garden. The best thing about the place? Nine taps and six different kinds of sausage, which can make for a very amusing math game, trying to pair each with each before dying of either alcohol poisoning or a tube-steak overdose. Something else fun: running through a list of the worst restaurant names in Philadelphia (there are a lot of them), inspired by the remodeling and renaming
of Georges Perrier's Bar Lyonnaise space, which will now be called Tryst. What was supposed to be a quick tour of the new (and not yet completed) Hop Sing Laundromat space turned into a three-hour Chinatown adventure, courtesy of its owner, Lee (yeah, just Lee), in which we discussed historic cocktails, Danish light fixtures, how to piss off your contractor and the various rumors and lies that have been told about the place. And when we were done on Race Street, it was back to the grind, collecting all the news on snails, The Vendy Awards, the Diving Horse, the coming of Dirty Burger, Fathom’s new menus and catering the zombie apocalypse. Oh, and before I forget: Don't miss out on your chance to score reservations for the next Restaurant Club dinner party at Tweed. They're calling it "All About Wine" so, yeah—there's probably gonna be some drinkin'... —
